Project description

Smart Terminal is developing a computer vision system that automatically identifies and locates vehicles inside a port terminal. It combines and orchestrates video surveillance cameras, and its software tracks, analyzes and locates cargo both in the yard and under cover, so that every movement is recorded and backed by its own visual evidence. The system integrates with the management systems the terminal already uses and runs on its existing camera estate, requiring no construction work and no replacement of the installation.

Objectives

• Automate cargo identification — chassis number, license plate or label — without stopping the vehicle and without manual intervention by the operator.
• Deliver continuous vehicle tracking throughout its entire stay in the terminal, both in the yard and under cover, across multi-camera networks.
• Replace physical checkpoints with virtual gates, removing barriers, booths and queues.
• Guarantee traceability of every movement, with its associated visual evidence and with evidentiary value.
• Integrate the system with the management systems the terminal already uses and with its existing camera estate, with no construction work.

Expected results

• An identification and tracking platform validated in real operation at Port of Barcelona terminals.
• Reaching the technology readiness level committed to in the technical report, accredited with evidence.
• Reduced manual scanning and inventory work, and fewer of the operational errors associated with it.
• A product ready to be brought to market, meeting the commitment to commercial launch within one year of the end of the execution period.
